Cattle Grazing
(31st of August 2006 - 20th of September 2006)
Description
The paintings you see in this exhibition are a direct result of my having recently changed address.
Not a big or important thing you might say, however I have lived all my life in the heart of Brisbane and have just relocated to the beautiful and lush environment of Maleny, in the hinterland adjacent to the Sunshine Coast.
My new studio is bathed every day in beautiful natural light with huge windows looking out onto vast green fields. Right beside a big picture window in my studio is a vast field where several times a week I am visited by a wonderful herd of cows. Their faces are literally 6 feet away from my windows. I have been so taken with the sculptural and endearing qualities of these gentle animals that I decided to explore their possibilities in oil paint.
Until now I have always taken from within to create my artwork with the layering of childhood memories however, quite clearly; moving to the country has given me great impetus to create works that are a direct result of my new surroundings and a new joy of reflecting on observations of country life. I hope this comes across in my new works.
