Annabel Tully’s latest exhibition at RM Galleries in Hamilton, is another step in her meteoric rise as an emerging artist of merit.
Her exhibition “Homeland”, depicts the beauty and vastness of the channel country of south western Queensland, where she lives. Not jaded by the environment, she is astute enough to be aware of its complexities and its innate capacity to nurture the creative mind.
The demand for Annabel Tully’s work during the past year follows her very successful “near sell-out”solo show in 2006 at RM Galleries. Regularly selling from the stockroom Tully is one of the gallery’s most popular artists. Her delightful paintings speak to a wide audience, as they exude an honesty and love of her “Homeland”.

The elegant RM Galleries on the ground level of the beautiful historically listed Palma Rosa at Hamilton, provides an interesting backdrop to these dynamic paintings that support strong skills in draftsmanship and composition. Like many of Australia’s mature female painters who have experienced the ebb and flow of life, she paints with passion and authority those subjects often seen tackled by men.
“In many ways, her personal tenacity, and the strength in her compositions remind me of Grace Cossington Smith.” says Des Rolph, Co-Director”. “She has the ability to discover great subjects in what is overlooked by many, and creates fabulous compositions of buildings that seemingly come to life. Her brave use of colour adds to the strength and contrasts resulting in powerful images. Standing in the gallery surrounded by these large works, one cannot help feeling enticed into the depths of the paintings.”
With a career exceeding 20 years, Dempsey first studied and worked in ceramics. This love of form led her to discover that painting structure in architecture in its various complexities, was another avenue she could passionately turn her skills to.
Several years of study at TAFE and the Queensland College of Art in Brisbane, see her emerge with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and an Advanced Diploma in Ceramics. In 1989, Ken Done invited her down to Sydney for solo exhibition at Moore Park, after seeing her work at a Waterfront Place exhibition.

Rhonda is a Brisbane based sculptor who choose to follow her passion for sculpting and left the corporate world.
Her works are figurative and inspired by the variations in shape and movement of the human form. She works exclusively in bronze or glass.
Rhonda has a uniquely original style making her work quite distinctive even though the human body has long been an inspiration for artists in all cultures and times. Her work captures a frozen moment in time that can often appear to defy gravity as the sculpture seem poised on the brink of continuing their flow.
The sculptures appear often to have some of the ‘heroic’ qualities of ancient myths and legends but the names for her pieces, such as Kev and Narelle, are well grounded in iconic Aussie-ism.
