Artist Statement
My world of art is messy, chaotic and all consuming. My process is to make art that appears at first glance to be uncomplicated, however what goes behind in preparation more often takes a lot longer than the actual finished piece. Through the deliberation of taking things away, the viewer is invited to discover the forms.
My teacher & mentor Donald James Waters quoted time and time again “nothing is wrong, it’s just not finished”! He gave me the inspiration to push my work further and opened my eyes to all possibilities in a painting.
Form vs content is my favourite subject and even our great philosopher Plato debated a lifetime with this. Which is considered the more important? In creating a painting content is the most important physical part. Where would Picasso be if he only stuck to form?
