Artist Statement
I am a regional Queensland artist working largely in landscape and portraiture, committed to the joys of charcoal and oil paint. My work is grounded in the immediacy and speed of plein air drawing and the chromatic
interplay of multiple layers of transparent oil paint. I try to work with a neutrality and craft that allows the emotion of a scene to be expressed directly without the distraction of intellect. The interplay of natural chaos with human patterning is often what attracts my gaze and informs my compositions.
