Artist Statement

I am driven to create, I really have no choice but to initiate works that seek to define my world. I use my paintings to communicate feelings, moods and impressions of the world in a language that will not dull with time.

I invite the viewer into the worlds I create, they are challenged to explore, look around and discover the messages and clues that tell my stories.

I create works to be hung on walls as a source of entertainment and a way to communicate the beauty of the world in my time as I see it.

While watercolours were my main area of expertise,I also work in acrylics and oils on canvas. I have worked extensively with pen and ink and I also sculpt and carve particularly with hebel stone.

In 2000 I helped form the ‘Purple Boot Collective’;- a group of five artists determined to become better artists by working together, exploring the Australian landscape in new and creative ways and mentoring each other as we go.

For me, painting is as essential as breathing and as motivating as any greed.

My paintings generally work to the one ‘hundred year test’, that is to say: - a person one hundred years from now could view my work and read the language of emotion I painted into it. Paintings are highly evolved language that will transcend age race and creed to tell a message. My paintings tell the story of my journey; they reflect my ideology and speak from my heart.
